LIT/CIT Program

Thank you for your interest in Frederick County Parks and Recreation’s Leader-in-Training (LIT) and Counselor-in-Training (CIT) program! We are excited to share the updates and improvements that we have made to our program. For more information, please check back in January or email Sarah Delise at to be placed on the mailing list.

Beginning in our 2018 season:

If you are in Grades 6-8

, you qualify for our Leader-in-Training (LIT) summer camp program.

The LIT Camp Program is a great way for young adults who are interested in leadership and working with children, to work towards becoming a future Counselor-In-Training with Frederick County Parks and Recreation.

Our LIT camp is a week-long leadership training program that provides teen participants with a unique combination of formal leadership training and hands-on, practical job experience all while still enjoying the fun of summer camp. Participants will engage in exciting team-building activities, interactive workshops and fun games and activities in a social and educational environment.

Spaces are limited and are anticipated to fill quickly. For more information, view document linked above or click here.

If you are in Grades 9-12

, you qualify for our Counselor-in-Training (CIT) development program.

Our CIT development program is focused on leadership, communication skills, team-building, goal-setting and, of course, having fun. As a CIT, you will be assigned to a summer camp for a 1 week session and will get to assist summer camp staff in operations of the week’s camp program.

The primary duty of a CIT is to assist the paid counselors with the overall supervision of an assigned group of campers to ensure their safety.  CITs are also responsible for planning, organizing and actively participating in a variety of fun camp activities including sports, games, arts and crafts and special events with their program participants.

Frederick County Parks and Recreation is no longer accepting applications for our CIT Program. The deadline for 2018 has passed.
