Overview

Our programs are 1 hour in duration and are available all year. All groups are welcome to join us for environmental enrichment. Most classes include an outdoor element so please dress for the weather. Choose from the themes listed below.

Reservation Times

Fountain Rock Nature Field Trips are available Monday-Friday, between 9am-4pm. Reservations must be made at least 30 days in advance.

Three Sisters (a Woodland Indian Story)

Learn about the Eastern Woodland Indians that lived on the lands less than a mile from Fountain Rock Park, on Biggs Ford Road next to the Monocacy River. Participants will learn about The Three Sisters story and understand what life was like in the area during the 1700’s. Through hands-on demonstrations, pictures and games.

Awesome Animals

What is the difference between a reptile and an amphibian? How about an arachnid and an insect? Learn some fun animal facts and meet our Nature Center Animals. Afterward we will walk to the quarry and feed the turtles and fish.

Going Buggy (Seasonal Spring to Fall)

Discover some of the amazing things insects can do! Meet our resident creepy-crawly friends in the Nature Center, become a bug with our costumes, learn about the amazing things insects can do and how they help the planet. Dress for the weather we will be going outside for a bug hunt out on the trail.

Rascally Reptiles

Turtles, snakes and lizards oh my! Learn about reptiles and what makes them different from other animal species. Meet some local ambassadors and explore the Nature Center. Take a walk with us outside to feed the wild turtles in the quarry pond.

Geology is Fun!

Let’s talk about rocks and why we like them so much. See if you can match the Maryland rocks by colors, patterns, or shapes. Let’s take a walk outside to see what rocks we have in the park!
