Girl Scouts
Frederick County Parks and Recreation offers hands-on, educational programs for Girl Scouts of all levels. Activities are designed to support badges and Journeys while fostering skills in nature, science, art, history, cooking and more. Programs are offered at multiple park and museum locations across the county to provide a variety of engaging experiences that encourage creativity, learning, and teamwork.
Our programs take place at the following locations:

- Ballenger Creek Community Building – Teaching Kitchen
These locations offer a wide range of indoor and outdoor experiences, from exploring nature and history to hands-on cooking and arts programs. Girl Scouts can participate in age-appropriate activities at each level, from Daisies through Ambassadors.

Rose Hill Manor Park & Museums
- Listening to the Past: Discover the past by exploring Rose Hill Manor, playing historical games, and acting out scenes from the 18th and 19th century
- Puppets, Dolls & Plays: Make puppets and dolls and create a puppet show about Brownie Girl Scout safety
Ballenger Creek Community Building – Teaching Kitchen
- Snacks: Learn to make tasty and fun snacks with a focus on flavor and healthy choices
Fountain Rock Park & Nature Center
- Camper (Junior Girl Guide): Learn camping skills including gear selection, fire building, outdoor cooking, activity planning, and Leave No Trace principles
Catoctin Creek Park & Nature Center
- Junior Gardener: Learn about garden design, plant selection, and how to create a successful garden
- Junior Geocacher: Learn how to use a GPS receiver to find geocaches, prepare for an adventure, and create a trade item
Fountain Rock Park & Nature Center / Catoctin Creek Park & Nature Center
- Flowers (Junior Girl Guide): Learn about different types of flowers, how they send messages, and look for flowers in nature
- Animal Habitats (Amuse Journey): Learn about animal homes and habitats in Maryland and beyond, then build your own shelter outdoors
Rose Hill Manor Park & Museums
- Yarn & Fabric Arts: Explore traditional fabric arts such as weaving and quilting. Dye a small fabric project and learn basic knots or stitches (2-hour program)
- Toymaker: Discover historical toys and craft your own toys and games to play with friends and family (2-hour program)
Ballenger Creek Community Building – Teaching Kitchen
- Simple Meals: Create healthy and flavorful meals for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and dessert
Fountain Rock Park & Nature Center / Catoctin Creek Park & Nature Center
- Night Owl (Media Journey): Experience the nightlife from an animal’s point of view. Take a night hike to watch the stars and see what’s different when the lights go out
- Trees (Cadette Girl Guide): Learn to identify 5 trees by their bark, discover why trees are important, how to care for them, and hear related stories
Ballenger Creek Community Building – Teaching Kitchen
- Eating for You: Prepare foods that support a healthy mood, mind, and body
- New Cuisines: Learn to cook a meal from a new cuisine and explore a bit about its country of origin
Fountain Rock Park & Nature Center
- Adventurer (Sow What? Journey): Hike and explore Maryland ecology, practice journaling, play games, and optionally schedule an overnight campout
Catoctin Creek Park & Nature Center
- Sky: Track the weather and explore the skies in an outdoor, nighttime setting

- Locavore: Explore the benefits of using local products to create tasty dishes
