Populations Field Trip

Program Description

This program will provide students with age and grade appropriate information about the basic needs of animals in a habitat, the flow of energy between species in an ecosystem, the effect on individual animals when habitat needs are not met (limiting factors) and the effect limiting factors have on controlling a population of animals in nature over time. Instruction will include discussions, role plays, observations of live animals & habitats, and interactive games.

Three Rotations (K to 5th Grade)

  • Food Chain/Food Web 
  • Habitats & Limiting Factors 
  • Hike & Population Game (Oh Deer! or How Many Bears Can Live in this Forest?)  

Program Details

  • Program length: 90-120 minutes
  • Minimum: 10 students 
  • Maximum: 3 classes, or 100 students, per program time slot
  • Chaperones required: 1 chaperone per 15 students
  • Cost: $5/person
